Things We “Discovered”
Most of the contributors to this website, are the great grandkids (several times over) of people and Nations that were “discovered” to be very much alive and well in this hemisphere in 1492 and before. Those Indigenous people, like these contributors, were agriculturist, philosophers, advocates, healers, scholars, artists, and everyday people, just living their lives. You may have heard/read that Indigenous people were/are noble, stoic, generous, simple, or worse. Maybe so. I can assure you that Indigenous people were/are complex and downright hilarious. And really really diverse.
Indigenous people have traded with others and learned new things, forever. Keep what we like, reject what makes no sense, personally and culturally. We’ll do a lot of this here. In this section we’ll link to books, other websites, and products. We’ll try to help folks “buy Indigenous” when we can. And we will recycle ideas and reinvent things.
We won’t have the audacity to just walk into someone’s house, take what is theirs, then claim full ownership has been bestowed upon us. That’s no way to start. But we might share cool stuff we have “discovered” over the years.
