Experiment: 30 days, 1 mile a day

I am a slow runner. I have a love-hate relationship with running. Over the last 25 years, I have clocked 2 full marathons (really slow) and countless half marathons (still slow) and many 5Ks and 10ks (not as slow) - but I don’t really love it. I do know it’s really good for me and I get results when I consistently do it.

When I’m not reading incessantly about Indian law and politics, I read incessantly about other people’s health and wellnesses theories. Enter the 1 mile a day for 30 days challenge. It’s self-explanatory. You run/walk every day, but only 1 mile. For one month. This is even for “real”runners that are looking to get faster or mix it up.

I’m on day 2 and I thought (maybe) some of you would like to join me in this little experiment. I’ll share my progress, whether I fell of the wagon, whether it “worked” etc.

Here’s (allegedly) the deal:

  • It’s not overwhelming, physcially or mentally.

  • You get into a really solid routine b/c it’s sustainable.

  • It’s a small time commitment that can be done even on busy work days.

  • You can track improvement daily. If you can’t run the whole thing, you eventually will. If you are already a runner, you will really trim your time.

  • You aren’t going to be so sore the next day that you need to take a day off.

  • It cost zero dollars. Lace up almost any shoe and go.

  • Endorphins = really good for mental and physical health.

My primary goal is to get faster, but it would be great if I really really fell in love with running. (Enter deep belly laugh).
